The Delhi High Court today sought response to the plea of actor Rakul Preet Singh in which he was asked to stop media reports linking him to the Riya Chakraborty drug case. The actor claimed in his petition that media reports were linking him to the case despite being overtaken by Ms. Chakraborty’s statement in which he had allegedly taken her name.
Media reports are being run in violation of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting guidelines, the 29-year-old actor – represented by advocate Aman Hingorani – claimed in his petition.
The petition stated that the Press Council of India also did not specifically require the media to have sensational or invasive privacy rights.
The petition said that she was surprised to see reports of actress Riya Chakraborty in connection with actress Sara Ali Khan and designer Simone Khambata as drug users in an ongoing investigation by the Narcotics Control Bureau in Mumbai.

A single-judge bench of Justice Naveen Chawla has now issued notices to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) and the Press Council of India, seeking their stand on their petition.

The court asked the authorities to consider her petition as a representation and decide on it before the next date of hearing on 15 October.
Rakul Preet Singh was on the list of actors nominated by actor Riya Chakraborty during the investigation by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
