US Open Runner-up Alexander Zverev Cologne won the ATP title by beating Felix Auger-Alissime 6-3, 6-3 on Sunday. The German world number seven claimed his third ATP Tour victory on home soil as the third seed Auger-Alissim lost their sixth consecutive final. “I was a very tough finalist in New York and the next final I played here and I wanted to play my best tennis,” said 23-year-old Zverev.
“Felix, you are an incredible player. I know it doesn’t make much sense right now, but I’m sure you’re not only going to win one title, you’re going to win many, many titles in your career. Even more Big titles, ”he added.
Barma-Aliasim, 20, overtook second seed Roberto Bautista Agut In the semi-finals but failed to repeat their performance against Zverev.
His losing streak extends to his first ATP final at the Rio Open in February 2019.
“I just played poorly from beginning to end,” Auger-Aliassime said.
