Amazon on Wednesday added podcasts to its streaming music service, tapping into a trend and taking on rivals including Spotify and Apple.
Podcasts include Of amazon Streaming service in US, UK, Germany and Japan.
“Our customers’ listening habits are constantly evolving, and we know they are looking to provide us with a rich experience rooted in music and entertainment,” said Steve Boom, vice president of Amazon Music.
A survey on podcast consumption this year showed that 37 percent of American adults listened to podcasts within the past month, a figure that has more than tripled in the past decade, with market tracker Statista Reported In june.
Weekly consumption of podcasts has also jumped, with some of the world’s top publishers watching millions or streams and downloaded monthly, Statistad Read.
According to Statista, a follow-up survey in the US found that 10 percent of younger listeners are 18 to 34 years of age, believing that people should pay for podcasts and be ad-free.
“We are thrilled to provide customers with a convenient podcast listening experience that suits their lifestyle,” said Kitan Brahmabhatta, director of the Amazon Music Podcast.
Upcoming productions at Amazon Music include a new multi-media podcast by composer Rebecca Gomez, known as “Becky G”, exploring issues and trends with each episode dedicated to the nonprofit organization .
“In quarantine, with plenty of time to consider the world around us, it felt like the perfect opportunity to open up a new line of communication and pay it forward,” Gomez said.
