BJP’s Rajya Sabha member Ashok Gasti has died due to COVID-19 from Karnataka. The hospital confirmed on Thursday, there is confusion due to condolence tweets posted by top politicians.
The 55-year-old was seriously ill and was admitted to Manipal Hospital.
The director of the hospital, Dr. Manish Rai said in a statement that the MP died at 10.31 pm.
The hospital said that the Rajya Sabha member was admitted with severe COVID-19 pneumonia and was severe after multi-organ failure. He was on life support in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Mr. Gasti was from Raichur in North Karnataka and was the first booth level worker.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Mr. Gasti “dedicated” Worker“And mourned his demise on Twitter:

After his uncontested election in June this year, Mr. Gasti did not appear in Parliament due to the epidemic. He was a Rajya Sabha member for the first time.
At the time of nomination, Mr. Gasti told NDTV, “It is a very happy event. A booth-level worker has been recognized in this way. Such recognition is possible only in BJP. It has given a lot of enthusiasm . Millions of BJP workers. I want to thank all the BJP leaders. “
Condolences on Twitter started following Mr. Gasti’s death.

Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu expressed sorrow and said that Mr. Gasti is known for his “simplicity and commitment to the upliftment of Dalits”.

Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar tweeted, “Deeply saddened to hear the news of the passage of Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. Ashok Gasti. My condolences to his family and friends.”
The leaders had also tweeted earlier in the day but later deleted the tweet.
