Bhupinder was born in Amritsar, Punjab. He sang several duets with Kishore Kumar and Mohammad Rafi. In an interview in 2016, he said that there was always so much music in my house. I didn’t want to do anything associated with it. My father Natha Singh was a music teacher in Amritsar. My older brother was an instrumentalist. As a young man, I thought that if I became a musician, I wouldn’t be respected and wouldn’t have a career in music. That’s why I stopped singing. Bhupinder said, “I chose a Hawaiian guitar instead. He started playing the hardest movie songs and classical music for her. I think I started singing again because of the guitar.
