Ranbir wrestles for the fifth time
Significantly, this will be the fifth time in Ranbir Kapoor’s career that he can somehow reach the opening double digits. Prior to Shamshera’s 10.3 crore, Tamasha had 10.9 crore, Roy 10.4 crore, Rockstar 10.6 crore and Politics 10.5 crore. Rockstar and Tamasha were box office flops, while Roy and Politics were semi-hits. But the budget for none of these movies was even close to Shamshera.
Shamshera is the biggest theatrically released film since the Corona period. Shamshera was released on 5500 screens worldwide, including 4350 screens in India and 1200 screens overseas. Therefore, it was believed that depending on Ranbir Kapoor’s infatuation among the audience, Shamshera would create box office opening records.
Significantly, Shamshera’s budget is enormous. It was made on a huge budget of 150 crores. The film is directed by Karan Malhotra, whom Aditya Chopra, owner and producer of Yash Raj Films, had great confidence in. Karan Malhotra had previously given a hit film like Agneepath to Dharma Productions and it was believed that he would repeat the story with Yash Raj Films.
Big loss for Yash Raj Films
Shamshera’s opening is very short, and the film’s word of mouth is even worse. According to this, the film will also be able to extract its budget at the box office. In other words, Shamshera will be the third major setback this year for Yash Raj Films. Previously, Yash Raj Films 90 crore star Ranveer Singh Jayeshbhai Jordaar earned 17.5 crore while 180 crore Samrat Prithviraj earned 66 crore. Both films were flops and now no one can stop Shamshera from joining this list. Together, these three films will result in a loss of around 250 crores for Yash Raj Films.
Equal to the previous film?
Karan Malhotra’s previous film Agneepath earned 118 crores at the box office. It is number two on the list of highest-grossing films of Sanjay Dutt’s career. On the other hand, the highest grossing films of Ranbir Kapoor’s career are Sanju at 342 crore and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani at 188 crore. It remains to be seen whether or not Shamshera will become his third highest-grossing film.
