The Finance Ministry on Wednesday asked all central ministries and departments to clear the dues of national carrier Air India immediately. Along with this, all officers of the Central Government have been instructed to buy Air India tickets in cash till further orders.
The notification issued by the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, came after the national carrier terminated its credit facility to the government as it was sold to Tata Sons.
“Recently, the Government of India has decided to disinvest Air India, the process of disinvestment of Air India and Air India Express is in progress. Air India has stopped providing credit facility for purchase of air tickets. Therefore, all the Ministries and Departments are directed to clear the dues of Air India immediately. Air tickets from Air India can be purchased in cash till further instructions,” the memorandum of the Department of Expenditure said.
The Finance Ministry said that all ministries and departments should bring these developments to the notice of their subordinate offices and institutions under their administrative control for compliance.
