New Delhi: The government on Wednesday approved Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) – 78 days’ salary to eligible non-gazetted railway employees for the financial year 2020-21 (FY21). Railway Protection Force (RPF) or Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) personnel are not included in the decision. The bonus is usually announced before the Diwali festival.
“About 11.56 lakh non-gazetted employees are likely to benefit from this decision,” the Railway Ministry said in a notification. It states that the bonus is to be paid every year before the Dussehra/puja holidays.”
The ministry also said that the financial implications of the bonus payment have been estimated at Rs 1,984.73 crore.
The prescribed salary calculation limit for payment of PLB is Rs 7,000 per month, with the maximum amount payable to an employee being Rs 17,951 for 78 days.
“78 days’ wages of PLB were paid from financial year 2010-11 to 2019-20. PLB amount will be paid for the year 2020-21 also, to encourage employees to work towards improving performance is expected to inspire. of the Railways,” the ministry notification further read.
The PLB scheme for Railways came into force from the year 1979–80 and was developed in consultation with two recognized federations, the All India Railwaymen’s Federation and the National Federation of Indian Railwaymen, and with the approval of the Union Cabinet.
The scheme envisages a review every three years.
