Prolonged monsoon in the current financial year has affected coal supplies to power plants despite record production of dry fuel, leading to delays in transport from pit heads to units.

States like Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have been affected and have warned that there could be power outages in the coming days.

Also due to rising international coal prices, imports of the dry fuel have come down, affecting plants that rely on imported coal for power generation.
