The government has issued notices to many e-commerce entities to mislead consumers.

The government has issued 202 notices to several e-commerce entities in the last 12 months for wrong declaration of “country of origin” on products on their platforms. Most of the violations were related to electronic devices, followed by clothing and household products.

Apart from 202 notices issued to various e-commerce companies, 15 others were served with notices for violations such as incorrect declaration of expiry dates, pre-use, address of manufacturers or importers and charging more than the maximum retail price or MRP Were.

However, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs did not reveal the names of these companies and when asked by media persons for the reasons, Secretary in the Ministry Leena Nandan said that all efforts are being made to alert the companies as well as the consumers.

“Companies should be aware that they do everything legally maintainable in terms of redressal of consumer complaints. And consumers need to know their rights,” she said during a press conference.

The official further said that 76 companies have compounded their offenses and offenses worth over Rs 42.8 lakh crore have been compounded.
