July opening trade deficit widens to $31 billion

Goods imports for July rose to $66.26 billion.

New Delhi:

The July trade deficit widened to $31.02 billion, driven by imports of crude oil and coal from $10.63 billion a year ago to $31.02 billion, a government official said on Tuesday.

India’s commerce secretary BVR Subrahmanyam, while sharing preliminary data compiled by the commerce and industry ministry, told reporters that July’s goods imports increased to $66.26 billion, while exports grew at a slower pace to $35.24 billion.
