Railways freight traffic sees 3.6 per cent jump in September

Indian Railways freight traffic increased during September 2021

Indian Railways’ freight traffic in September 2021 witnessed a growth of 3.6 per cent as it stood at 106 million tonnes as against 102.3 million tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Also the Railways earned Rs 10,815 crore from freight loading in September 2021, which was 9 per cent higher than the freight traffic recorded during the same period last year, when it was Rs 9,905 crore.

Of the 106 million tonnes of freight traffic recorded by Indian Railways in September 2021, coal comprised a major chunk of it as dry fuel comprised 47 million tonnes of the total freight traffic.

It was followed by iron ore (11 million tonnes), food grains (6.4 million tonnes), cement (6.1 million tonnes), fertilizers (4.1 million tonnes) and mineral oil at 3.6 million tonnes.
