Registration of more than 4 crore workers on e-shram portal



More than four crore workers of the unorganized sector have registered on the e-shram portal.

Over four crore workers have registered themselves with the government’s newly launched e-shram portal, with maximum registrations coming from states like Odisha, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Agriculture and construction are the two sectors from where maximum number of workers have registered themselves on the portal.

A statement issued by the Labor Ministry said that apart from these two sectors, workers engaged in various activities such as manufacturing, domestic work, street vending and fishing have also registered on the portal.

Official sources said a large number of migrant workers are also involved in some sectors and they can take advantage of various social security and employment-based schemes of the government by registering on the e-shram portal.

While the Ministry of Labor had launched this portal two months back with an aim to register casual workers involved in the unorganized sector across the country to make them the beneficiary of its various social sector schemes and got a good response from many big states It is keen to attract more workers from union territories as well as smaller states like Meghalaya, Manipur, Goa and Chandigarh.

According to the live data, 4.09 crore workers have registered on the portal. About 50 percent of these beneficiaries are women and 49.98 percent are men. It is encouraging that an equal proportion of men and women have been a part of this campaign. There has been a weekly improvement in gender-based registration, with male and female workers registering in comparable proportion, the statement said.
