After profit-booking in the previous session, the domestic stock market opened with strength. At 9:18 am, the BSE Sensex was trading 244 points or 0.34 per cent higher at 612,487 and the NSE Nifty was up 78 points or 0.43 per cent at 18,343. The broader markets were also trading higher with the BSE Midcap index and BSE Midcap index rising 0.7 per cent and 0.6 per cent respectively.
Stocks in Asia-Pacific were mixed in Thursday trading as investors monitored shares of China Evergrande Group in Hong Kong. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.28 per cent and the Topix index fell 0.21 per cent.
The S&P 500 and the Dow climbed on Wednesday, with the Dow hitting an intraday record high, as investors’ eyes were better-than-expected for the third quarter of US companies. The Dow Jones rose 0.43 per cent to 35,609.34, the S&P 500 0.37 per cent and the Nasdaq Composite closed flat.
On the earnings front, Asian Paints, JSW Steel, Biocon, Can Fin Homes, Container Corporation and ICICI Lombard General Insurance will announce their results during the day.
On Wednesday, the BSE Sensex was down 456 points at 61,260 and the NSE Nifty fell 152 points at 18,266.60.
