Sensex climbs over 300 points; Nifty above 18,250

After the slowdown witnessed in the last three sessions, the domestic stock markets opened on a positive note with interest across the board. At 9:18 am, the BSE Sensex is trading up 280 points or 0.43 per cent at 61,202 and the NSE Nifty is up 74 points or 0.41 per cent at 18,248. The broader markets are also trading positive with the BSE Midcap index and BSE Smallcap index up 0.4 per cent.

Asia-Pacific markets were mostly up in Friday morning trade as shares of China Evergrande Group jumped in Hong Kong after media reports that the troubled developer is prepared to pay coupon payments on dollar-denominated bonds. The Nikkei 225 rose 0.82 per cent, the Topix index 0.52 per cent and South Korea’s Kospi 0.05 per cent.

Global stock indexes climbed mostly and the S&P 500 posted record highs on Thursday, led by gains in consumer discretionary and technology stocks. The S&P 500 gained 0.30 per cent and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.62 per cent. However, the Dow Jones lost 0.02 per cent.

On the earnings front, Reliance Industries will announce its September quarter results later in the day. HDFC Life Insurance, Yes Bank, Federal Bank and Hindustan Zinc will also announce their Q2 numbers today. And ICICI Bank will announce its quarterly earnings on Saturday.

On Thursday, the BSE Sensex slipped 336.46 points to 60,923.50 and the NSE Nifty fell 88.50 points to end at 18,178.10.
