For most part of the day, the benchmark was on a weak note, with the Sensex trading in the 150-point band. However, late buying in banking stocks closed the benchmark at record highs.

The Sensex closed 148 points higher at a record high of 60,284 and the Nifty 50 index rose 46 points to an all-time high of 17,992.
