Sensex, Nifty open flat, Tata Steel, ITC top gainers, Kotak Mahindra weak



Ahead of the derivatives expiry, the domestic stock markets opened in light red, adding to the losses of the previous day. At 9:18 am, the BSE Sensex is trading down 80 points or 0.31 per cent at 59,358.50 and the NSE Nifty is down 26 points or 0.1 per cent at 17,688.50.

According to analysts, the market is likely to remain volatile during the day due to the end of September F&O series.

On the global front, Asia-Pacific shares traded lower on Thursday morning as investors reacted to the release of Chinese factory activity data for September. Nikkei 225 slipped 0.67 per cent, Topix 0.65 per cent and Kospi 0.17 per cent.

The Dow and S&P 500 indexes regained some lost ground overnight on defensive stocks and gains in Boeing, Wall Street’s worst sell-off this year after concerns over inflation and rising Treasury yields. The Dow Jones rose 0.30 percent to 34,402.29 and the S&P 500 rose 0.16 percent to 4,359.53; The Nasdaq Composite, however, closed 0.26 per cent lower at 14,509.17.

On Wednesday, the BSE Sensex closed 254.33 points down at 59,413.27 and Nifty fell 37.30 points to 17,711.30.
