Indian equity benchmarks rose for the second consecutive session on Tuesday led by gains in Reliance Industries, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Finance, ITC, Tata Steel and Asian Paints. After staging the gap up opening, the benchmark traded in a range bound manner in the first half of the session. However, continued buying in auto and metal stocks closed the benchmark at intraday highs in the later part. The Sensex rose 531 points to hit a high of 61,497.71 and the Nifty 50 index touched a high of 18,310.
Sensex closed 383 points higher at 61,350 and Nifty 50 index rose 142 points at 18,268.
