Sensex, Nifty closed at record highs on gains in IT, metal stocks

The Sensex closed at an all-time high of 52,474.76, up 174 points or 0.33 per cent.

Indian equity benchmarks hit record highs on Friday led by gains in information technology and metal stocks. The benchmark opened higher, with the Sensex rising 341 points to a record high of 52,641.53 and the Nifty 50 index hitting an all-time high of 15,835.55. Analysts said the pace of new Covid-19 infections continued to decline, with markets hitting record highs on hopes of a rapid economic revival.

The Sensex closed 174 points or 0.33 per cent higher at an all-time high of 52,474.76 and the Nifty 50 index rose 62 points to a record high of 15,799.35.
