After three years of marriage, superstar rapper Cardi B filed for divorce on Tuesday from her husband, rapper Offset, according to court records. The couple, who secretly married in September 2017, were already through a well-publicized rough patch, which resulted in their break-up being announced nearly two years ago. In a December 2018 video on Instagram, he said, “We’ve got a lot of love for each other but things haven’t been working between us for a long time.” “It’s like this, I think we just grew out of love, but we’re not together anymore.”
But about a year later the pair reconciled and Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar, told Vogue at the time that her husband had split due to infidelity.
“We’ve come to a clear understanding. For me, monogamy is the only way,” she said.
Cardi B is seeking offset 2-year-old daughter Kulture and child support, whose real name is Kiri Cefus.
According to the Fulton County court of Georgia, a hearing is scheduled for November 4, which is the home state of the offset.
Despite the turmoil in her personal life, Cardi B has rocketed from her humble origins to success in the Bronx of New York.
Her 2017 hit Bodak Yellow Brought her fame, and 2020 chart topper Wap Brought her controversy.
The song is an unexpected celebration of female desire with graphic sexual metaphors that have warmed and upset American conservatives.
