We all like Biryani very much. Don’t we? Biryani has a special place in everyone’s heart. And believe it, we go to great lengths to saturate our biryani cravings – from whipping at home to discovering every possible biryani joint in the city. Indian politician Rahul Gandhi was recently spotted licking and re-eating Tamil Nadu’s famous ‘Kalan Biryani’ (Mushroom Biryani) on a popular online cooking show. Uploaded on the popular YouTube channel ‘Village Cooking Channel’, the video went viral on social media in a short time, which saw more than 90 million views in less than 48 hours.
In the 14-minute video, Rahul Gandhi prepared ‘Kala Biryani’ to help the chef and later enjoyed a meal sitting on a mat. He was seen mixing Vengayam (onion), Thayir (curd) and Kalluppu (rock salt) in the dish. He said, “It smells great. It looks great.” He also praised her in Tamil, saying, “Romba nala iruku” (Stand for: Very Nice).
In addition, he was seen after some light talk, talking to the cooks and inquiring about their future plans.
The video ends with Mr. Gandhi asking the chefs (YouTubers) to cook their special ‘termite curry’ for him for his next visit to Tamil Nadu.
The 14-minute video garnered over 50k comments on YouTube. While some applauded the saying, “great work”, others felt it “inspiring”.
