India achieved the milestone of 100 crore COVID vaccinations on 21 October. This historic moment was accomplished within just 10 months of the start of the vaccination program. India is now part of the prestigious club of countries that have completed one billion vaccinations, the other being China. Social media users are in a celebratory mood ever since the announcement was made. A Surat based eatery has decided to celebrate the day with a special plan. They are giving free ‘Locho’ to 100 fully immunized persons to mark India’s achievement. Several citizens can be seen enjoying free food in a video shared by ANI:

Mohit, the owner of the eatery, told ANI that they were giving free lochos to anyone as long as they showed the certificate of complete vaccination. Locho is a popular street-style snack made from chickpea flour, however, unlike khaman it has an inconsistent shape. It is said to be one of the specialties of Surat, hence some people also call it ‘Surti Locho’. Before serving, the lochos are steamed and sprinkled with seasonings, chopped onions, chutney and crunchy sev. It can also be had for breakfast, or as a snack or ‘farsan’ during evening tea.
The purpose behind these free gifts is to encourage as many people as possible to get vaccinated early. Since the plan was such a hit, Mohit said that he is extending it for two more days. Mohit told ANI, “I want to encourage people to get vaccinated and participate in the celebrations. We will continue this scheme for 2 more days.”
