This is why experts suggest adding certain foods to your diet to boost immunity and overall nutrition, especially during the cold season. Consultant nutritionist Rupali Dutta suggests, “During winters, what you eat matters a lot to fight the cold outside. There are certain foods that can naturally generate heat in the body. should optimize the pantry and include winter-friendly foods for the season.” We all know that winters in India are synonymous with dishes made of jaggery (jaggery) and til (sesame seeds) which are known for their naturally warming properties. These foods that warm us from within are known as thermal foods, she further explains, “Foods that take longer to digest tend to raise our body temperature more and hence increase the body temperature. help the body feel warm, this is known as thermogenesis”. Here are the top three warming foods that can help you this season.

Here are 3 ‘thermal foods’ that can keep you warm in winters:

1. Ginger:

Pooja explains that along with aiding in digestion, ginger is also known to be an invigorating ingredient that will make you feel warm from inside.

2. Red Meat:

Red meat like beef, pork or mutton is high in iron which helps in the transport of oxygen throughout the body and in turn keeps you warm. She suggests that people with low hemoglobin levels are prone to cold hands and feet and should reduce their daily iron consumption.

3. Sweet Potato:

Pooja says that all root vegetables take longer to digest in your system, which creates more energy, which helps keep you warm.
