The COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Gujarat will start for health workers from 161 centers, when the nationwide vaccination campaign will start on January 16, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said today.
Officials said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is scheduled to launch a nationwide vaccination campaign against coronovirus on Saturday, is expected to hold talks with some beneficiaries at Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital (one of the sites).
During a function in Jamnagar, Mr. Rupani said, “Vaccination against coronavirus will start from 161 centers in Gujarat when a nationwide campaign is launched by the Prime Minister on Saturday.”
The state’s immunization officer, Dr. Nayan Jani said that for the first phase, the Gujarat Health Department has identified 4.31 lakh health workers, including doctors and nurses.
After health professionals, 6.93 lakh frontline workers such as police personnel, 1.05 crore citizens under 50 and 2.75 lakh people below 50 but under the drive will be covered with comoridities.
Dr. Jani said, “We will be vaccinating 100 health workers per center every day. The beneficiaries will get an SMS through the Koin application about the center’s address and other instructions.”
COWIN is an online platform for monitoring COVID-19 vaccine delivery and will serve as the foundation for an anti-coronavirus inoculation drive.
The vaccination officer said that about 15,000 commentators have been trained by the Health Department and the entire administration is fully prepared for this campaign in Gujarat.
Dr. Jani said, “While the minister will be present in some of the 161 centers scheduled across the state, (Vijay) Rupani and Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel will be staying at the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital (first day of the drive).”
“Through the video conference, PM Modi can interact with the health workers receiving the vaccine at the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. This hospital has been designated by the PM tomorrow to interact with the beneficiaries,” the official said.
