The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) today arrested a Bollywood makeup artist and hairstylist with an autorickshaw driver for possessing 11 grams of cocaine and Rs 56,000 in cash, calling it a drug sale operation.
The Mumbai Zonal Unit of NCB said in a statement that the agency on Wednesday had rounded up two persons from Oshiwara area of the city.
According to a statement released today by NCB zonal head Sameer Wankhede, “Initial investigations have revealed that one of those arrested, Sooraj Godambe, is a hairstylist by profession.” Godmbe, a popular makeup artist and hairstylist, has worked with some big production houses, an NCB official told PTI. He was reportedly the receiver of the consignment on Wednesday. The statement said that Yadav, the supplier, is an autorickshaw driver and works on behalf of the Nigerian Syndicate.
The agency seized 11 grams of cocaine in 16 packets during the raid, along with an autorickshaw, near Meera Tower in Andheri Tower, Oshiwara.
It is of “intermediate volume”, both the accused were arrested today. The court of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Mumbai remanded the NCB till 16 December.
The NCB has been conducting searches in Mumbai since Tuesday and earlier arrested two other persons including drug peddler Rigel Mahakal and one Azam Shaikh in a drug case related to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. PTI reported that during these searches “Charas” worth Rs 2.5 crore and cash of Rs 13.51 lakh were seized. According to NCB officials, the recovery was made from Sheikh’s residence in Milit Nagar, Andheri West and was one of the largest in recent times.
Several other Bollywood actors and their family members, including Deepika Padukone, Feroz Nadiadwala, and Arjun Rampal, have been questioned by the NCB regarding the agency’s extensive investigation of drug cartels working in the film industry over the past several months.
