New Delhi:

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal to impose President’s rule in Puducherry, shortly after the Congress-led government at the Center lost power during the trust vote.

Announcing the decision of the cabinet, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters that the decision was taken because no party in Puducherry had claimed to form the government after the resignation of the chief minister.

Subsequently, the Lieutenant General recommended President’s rule in Puducherry and the Union Cabinet has also approved it.

After the President’s assurances, the Legislative Assembly will be resolved, Mr. Javadekar said, further necessary steps for administrative work in Puducherry will be taken soon.

He also said that the model code of conduct was expected to be implemented soon after the Election Commission announced election dates with four states.
