A 45-year-old man, whose daughter was allegedly raped, poured an inflammable substance on himself and threatened to commit suicide in front of the IG’s office in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district on Tuesday, police said.

He accused the police of not investigating the rape case properly.

Bharatpur Superintendent of Police Devendra Vishnoi said that he along with his daughter and two others went to the Bharatpur IG office and poured an inflammable substance on himself.

“He was caught and taken into custody before he could take any further steps,” the SP said.

He said that the man had filed a case in July last year with the Kaman police station alleging that his daughter was raped.

The SP said, “The girl had eloped with a lawyer on 18 July 2020 and her relatives found her in Chandigarh. The girl was brought back and after six days a case of rape was registered against the lawyer and her three brothers. “

He said that during the investigation, it became clear that there was no involvement of the brothers of the lawyer, but the man was not convinced.
