Along with doctors and health workers, sanitation workers are also scheduled to be given the COVID-19 vaccine in the first phase of the vaccination campaign, said Kalaburagi, Karnataka, Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Snehal Lokhande.
“During the COVID-19 epidemic, the sanitary staff of our metropolitan municipality has worked very hard. They have done well in such high-risk situations. They have also collected garbage from hospitals and other homes,” Mr. Lokhande said.
“Thus, we have decided that these sanitary employees will also be vaccinated. For this, we have prepared a list of these sanitary employees, who will be vaccinated during the first phase,” Mr. Lokhande said.
“So far, we have submitted the list for approval to the state government,” he said.
The state’s Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education, Dr. K. Sudhakar said on 13 January that Karnataka would receive a total of 20,000 doses of Kovaxin.
The first phase of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign is scheduled to begin on January 16.
Earlier, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan had said that the central government was closely cooperating with the states and union territories for vaccine roll-out.
“From January 16, all preparations for the vaccine roll-out are on track,” he said.
