Moments after Mamata Banerjee was sworn in for her third straight term as the Chief Minister of Bengal, Governor Jagdeep Dhankar gave a scathing message on post-election violence in Bengal.
“I sincerely hope that the Chief Minister will take all steps to restore the rule of law on an immediate basis. I sincerely hope that the Chief Minister, my younger sister, will rise to the occasion,” said Mr. Dhankhar, on her behalf.
“You have to rise above partisan interests. I am sure you will write a new governance pattern.”
Since the election decision on Sunday, there have been clashes in both the Trinamool Congress and the BJP. Both parties have held the blame for the violence.
Mamata Banerjee said sometime back that her first priority would be to deal with Kovid and second – to appoint new officers to overcome the law and order situation.
