The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday ordered the closure of all schools by 30 April and directed imposition of one-night curfew in the districts, in which 100 new infections or 500 active cases have been registered in a day.
According to a government statement, the government also ordered that no more than 100 people are allowed to gather in an open space for an event while the number is kept at 50 for closed places.
The latest government directives came just a day before the state recorded the highest one-day duration of 15,353 cases since the outbreak of the epidemic.
So far, 9,152 people have died due to infection in the state, with 6,92,015 cases since the outbreak of the epidemic.
Earlier, a night curfew was imposed in Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Allahabad, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Bareilly, Muzaffarnagar districts and Lucknow civic body area.
On 2 April, the UP government closed all schools for students of classes 1 to 8 by 11 April.
According to the statement released on Sunday, all government and private schools will remain closed till April 30, while pre-determined examinations can be conducted.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that curfew can be imposed from 9 am to 6 am in districts which register 100 fresh cases in a day or 500 active COVID-19 cases.
Emphasizing the need to focus on the “test, trace and treat” approach, the government said that the daily count of RT-PCR tests should be taken up to one lakh.
The directive states that at least 30-35 persons should be detected who have come in contact with the COVID-19 patient.
