Amid the electoral fervor, JDU candidate Sushumlata Kushwaha from Jagdishpur assembly seat delivered a baby girl on Sunday praising Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Mr. Kumar, who addressed an election rally in Jagdishpur with his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi during the day, reported the delivery of a baby girl to Ms. Kushwaha on Saturday night.
He blessed the mother and the newborn child.
Ms. Kushwaha is still in a hospital in Patna and could not attend the CM’s public meeting.
Married in 2012, the JD (U) candidate also has a seven-year-old daughter.
Ms. Kushwaha, who led the panchayat in her village, has been nominated from Jagdishpur Assembly seat by a party led by Mr. Kumar, the birthplace of 1857 rebel Babu Kunwar Singh.
She is the lone woman candidate among the 18 candidates in the seat, where RJD has fielded its sitting MLA Rambishun Singh Lohia, while LJP led by Chirag Paswan has fielded former JD (U) MLA and former state minister Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha. .
Situated in Bhojpur district, this seat will vote in the first phase on October 28.
Impressed by his work as village head, Mr. Kumar nominated him for the state assembly election.
Villagers said that earlier women used to stay away from gram sabha meetings, but after becoming chief, women participate in large numbers to chalk out the development works of the area.
