Narendra Patil, Palgar: The Central Government’s Fishing Port Development Department has approved in principle an amount of Rs. Therefore, the fishing community’s request has been accepted for several years.

A detailed project report of Rs 267 crore 12 lakh has been submitted to the government in accordance with the revised plan for the construction of fishing port infrastructure at Satpati in line with the state schedule 2021-22. The proposal was sent to Union Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, New Delhi and National Fisheries Development Corporation, Hyderabad for approval on June 17, 2022. Bengaluru-based CICEF submitted a report of feasibility on Satpati Port to Maharashtra Fisheries Development Corporation on 28th February 2022. Accordingly, the DPR, Estimates, Maps and Plans of Satpati Fisheries Port have been transferred to Maharashtra Maritime Board as directed by the Maharashtra Fisheries Development Corporation.

In this project, a breakwater embankment 660 meters long and 870 meters south of Satpati will be built and a quay wall of 315 meters will be constructed. Three lakh 53 thousand 350 cubic meters of dredging will be carried out for this port.

Union Minister Satpatit

Fishing activity has been affected as a contractor from Dahanu has already broken rocks in the shipping channel while working on Satpati jetty, filling Satpati bay with silt. Now a 1,530 meter long wall will be built in the sea itself and dredging of the sea floor will be carried out. Villagers say it is still unclear whether this will pose a threat to coastal homes in Danda Pada. There are also fears that the dredging will alter the natural flow of the sea. Purushottam Rupala, the Union Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development, will visit Satpati on February 20 on the occasion of “Sagar Parikrama”. At this time, it is expected to dispel the misunderstandings of fishermen here.
