alcohol consumption, women ahead of men in alcohol consumption in this district of Maharashtra; Social workers are concerned – in Dhule district, Maharashtra, women are ahead of men in alcohol consumption
Dhule (38.2%) and Gadchiroli (34.7%) districts rank highest in the state among young women and women. Alcoholism causes many social problems and many families are ruined. But, looking at revenue from the sale of alcohol, a picture has also emerged that the state and central government are promoting the sale of alcohol. Consequently, the number of alcoholics in the state has doubled in the last three years and most female alcoholics are found in Dhule district and males in Gadchiroli district. This shocking information recently came out of the National Family Health Report.
In women, after Dhula, the districts include Gadchiroli, Nandurbar. Interestingly, the report revealed that despite the ban on alcohol in Wardha and Gadchiroli districts, the addiction rate there is high.
In this regard, social worker Gitanjali Koli said that while we are working from village to village for the prohibition of alcohol, we are moving to many places in rural areas. The first alcohol ban movement was started from Dhule district to ban alcohol in Maharashtra along with the entire Dhule district. In Dhule district, the youth dependency ratio has increased. It is the urgent demand of Maharashtra Drubandi Mahila/Yuva Morcha to ban alcohol in Maharashtra as well as in the district.
A public awareness campaign has been underway in the district for six years. Because of the prohibition movement, women drinkers suffer a lot, ruining their lives. In addition, women have started a movement related to the prohibition of alcohol to free young people from addiction. But if in the district such a rising rate of dependency among urban women, student girls or women from tribal areas is revealed by such reports, then it is a very shocking and serious matter for Dhule district. , she said.
For this reason, if measures are not taken in time to get rid of addiction and alcohol is not banned in Dhule district, a very serious situation will arise in the future regarding women’s health. as well as men in the district. We do not know when this survey was conducted, but according to this report, it is a matter of serious consideration for women in Dhule district. Gitanjali Koli (Maharashtra Darubandi Mahila/Yuva Morcha) told Maharashtra Times Online that this issue will definitely be considered by meeting with Dhule Collector at government level.
