Delhi Police said that a person from Madhya Pradesh has been arrested on Facebook for making a fake profile in the name of a police officer and demanding money from his friends and relatives.
Police officer Atul Thakur said that the matter came to light when an Indian Police Service officer went to the police at Lodhi Colony in Delhi on September 26 and filed a complaint against a person.
The accused was using the officer’s name and display photo to cheat the people. He asked relatives and friends of the officer to transfer money to his account online.
The Delhi Police then registered a case based on the officer’s complaint.
Upon investigation, it was found that the accused was a resident of Satna in Madhya Pradesh and was identified as Munna Lal.
Delhi Police reached Satna and arrested her.
During interrogation, the accused said that he was working as a vet in Madhya Pradesh, but to make easy and fast money he started making fake profiles on Facebook and was cheating people, police said.
Police said that many people have resorted to the tactics of cheating people through Facebook to earn money.
