2 players, 3 support staff members of Indian men’s hockey team test positive for COVID-19



Hockey India on Thursday reported that two Indian men’s players and three members of the support staff have tested positive for COVID-19. The men’s team is currently preparing for the Commonwealth Games 2022 at the national camp at SAI Centre, Bengaluru. “RTPCR tests were conducted on Wednesday morning. He has mild symptoms and has been kept in isolation,” an official release from Hockey India said.

Earlier on Monday, the men’s team returned to the national camp at the SAI Centre, Bengaluru after playing against Belgium and the Netherlands in an exciting FIH Hockey Pro League double-header.

Hockey India announced 31 players for the camp that ends on 23 July ahead of the team’s departure for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

Manpreet Singh-led India will start their campaign against Ghana on July 31. India in Pool B will also take on hosts England, Canada and Wales in round-robin league matches.


Hockey India nominated PR Sreejesh, Krishan B Pathak, Pawan, Surendra Kumar, Harmanpreet Singh, Varun Kumar, Amit Rohidas, Jugraj Singh and Jarmanpreet Singh for the camp.

Manpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Shamsher Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Akashdeep Singh, Neelkant Sharma along with Gurjant Singh, Mandeep Singh, Dilpreet Singh, Sukhjit Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Abhishek, Gursahibjit Singh, Mandeep Mor, Sanjay have been called. Mohd Raheel Mausen, Sumit, Moirangthem Rabichandra Singh, Gurinder Singh, Jaskaran, Ashish Kumar Topno and Shilanand Lakra.
