David Warner’s struggle for runs in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has had little effect on Australian T20I captain Aaron Finch, who backed the southpaw to do well in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Warner, who has had a bad time with the bat, was dropped from the Sunrisers Hyderabad playing XI after a flop show in the UAE leg of IPL 2021. However, Finch said that Australia will stick to the right and left combination that has worked them in the past in the shortest format of the game. Finch, during an interaction with Sportstar, said that fans can expect him to open the innings with Warner in the marquee tournament.

“I think you would expect to see Davy (David Warner) and I open the batting in the World Cup. It’s something that has worked for us over a long period of time,” Finch was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

Warner returned to the top order for SRH in the UAE leg of the IPL after Jonny Bairstow pulled out of the tournament. But the left-hander failed to deliver the goods and was replaced by Jason Roy at the top of the order in SRH XI.

While Warner is finding it difficult to score runs, another Australian star Steve Smith lacks match practice. The star batsman has played only two matches in the UAE leg of the tournament.

Speaking on Smith, the Australia captain said that he could be used to play the role of an anchor.

“Smith is the best batsman in the world. There is no doubt that he is the best choice to play the anchor,” Finch said.
