Indian badminton ace PV Sindhu entered the summit clash of the BWF World Tour Finals with a hard-fought victory over Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in the semi-finals on Saturday. The reigning world champion and two-time Olympic medalist defeated Yamaguchi 21-15, 15-21, 21-19 in a thrilling encounter. This will be Sindhu’s third final appearance at the season-ending tournament. She won the title in 2018 and became the only Indian to achieve the feat. The world number seven entered the match against the world number three Japanese with an overall head-to-head win-loss record.

Sindhu is in good form after winning the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. She had reached the semi-finals in her last three events – the French Open, the Indonesia Masters and the Indonesia Open – before coming to the BWF World Tour Finals.

She was runner-up at the Swiss Open in March.
