Anshu Malik won silver medal in wrestling at CWG 2022

Grappler Anshu Malik clinched a silver medal in the women’s freestyle 57kg category at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 after losing to Nigeria’s Odunayo Folasade Adekuroye at the Coventry Arena wrestling mat on Friday. Malik suffered a 3-7 loss against Nigeria’s Adekuoroa in the gold medal match. Malik secured the first medal for India in the wrestling of the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022.

Anshu Malik fought hard but was very defensive at the start of the bout and bounced back in the last minute to change his strategy allowing Odunayo Folasade Adekuoroye to counterattack. His Nigerian rival dominated the match and pinned Malik out of the ring.

Anshu Malik had registered a 10-0 win against Nethmi Poruthotz of Sri Lanka to reach the final.

Earlier, Sakshi Malik advanced to the final after a 10-0 win over Berthe Emilion Etienne in the women’s freestyle 62kg category semi-final. Sakshi is sure of a silver medal and will face Canada’s Ana Godinez Gonzalez in the final.

The Commonwealth Games 2022 will begin in Birmingham from 28 July to 8 August.
