Comparisons between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have dominated conversation among football fans over the past decade. However, over the past year, the debate has become somewhat unbalanced with Messi leading Argentina to the FIFA World Cup title and Ronaldo losing favor at Manchester United and joining Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr. Ronaldo was greeted by Messi chants from rival club supporters in Saudi Arabia and another such incident took place after his team’s victory over Al Bataan. Ronaldo was walking through the tunnel when a young fan shouted in front of him that Messi was better. In a video going viral on social media, Ronaldo was seen ignoring the fan before shouting “And that was an easy game” to those around him.

Argentina captain Lionel Messi won the best FIFA men’s player award for 2022 on Monday during an award ceremony in Paris. It was the second time that Messi has won the honor, inaugurated by FIFA in 2016.
Messi, 35, beat his Paris Saint-Germain teammate and World Cup finalist Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema to collect the award. The winner for the award is selected on the basis of votes cast by selected captains and coaches of the national team.
One thing that came as a surprise was that Pepe was voted in place of Cristiano Ronaldo as Portugal’s representative. The Portugal captain abstained from voting as the Al-Nassr star was unmasked in several games during the 2022 FIFA World Cup and senior player Pepe was therefore given the opportunity to cast his vote.
Pepe voted for Kylian Mbappe as the first choice, followed by Luka Modric and Karim Benzema.
