Denmark’s Jonas Winggaard won the Tour de France on Sunday, ending the reign of two-time defending champion Tadej Pogakar, who was second. 2018 champion Geraint Thomas finished third. Belgium’s Jasper Philipsen won the dash for the line on the cobbled Champs Elysees to secure the coveted final stage victory.

Bliss Phillipsson lifted his bike up to the finish line after securing his second win of the Tour, and accidentally turned the page on his embarrassment of celebrating on stage four, when he was actually in second place.

The wingguard and his jumbo-visma teammates all crossed the line together in a row and cheered wildly.

After a relentless struggle over the peaks and plains in a crushing heatwave, Wingguard assured his victory in Saturday’s time-trial and took the lead in the Alps and extended it into the Pyrenees.

His Dutch team Jumbo put up a spectacular collective effort with six stage victories, a green sprint jersey for Van Aert and a polka dot mountain jersey for the wingguard.

Defeated champion Pogakar won the best under-25 jersey for the third time and left the tour with his reputation alive after a bittersweet attack on Vingegaard.
