Eight medical workers will be prosecuted for alleged criminal negligence in the death of Argentine football legend Diego Maradona, according to a court ruling made public on Wednesday. Prosecutors have demanded that he be tried for negligent murder.

He claims that mismanagement by the team had put the football legend in a “state of helplessness”.

The accused faces a prison sentence of eight to 25 years.


According to prosecutors, the defendants were “heroes of an unprecedented, utterly deficient and careless hospitalization at home”, allegedly responsible for “a series of improvisations, management failures and deficiencies”.

Maradona is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers in history.
