As a result of the 3–0 series loss to Australia, England dropped to No. 2 in the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings, passing New Zealand the top spot. The reigning ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup champions suffered consecutive defeats and went from winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 to losing in Australia in just 10 days. The number 1 spot in the ODI team ranking list has been reclaimed by New Zealand as per the latest ICC ODI rankings.
Before the start of the series, England were leading comfortably with 119 ratings points, five more than New Zealand. However, they dropped six points after three consecutive defeats and eventually fell behind New Zealand (114) for 113.
Australia were also rewarded for their outstanding performance. They moved up one place to overtake Pakistan, which had 107 rating points, to fourth place with 112 points. As a result, India and Australia are now tied in terms of rating points, with India having a higher overall score.
India is at the third position with 112 rating points and 3802 total points. Australia is at the fourth position with 112 and 3572 total points.
England will have another chance to regain the number one spot when they travel to South Africa for a three-match series in January 2023.
