Adil Rashid bowled to England 4/2 as West Indies were bowled out for 55 in the second match of the Super 12 leg of the T20 World Cup at the Dubai International Stadium on Saturday. Sensational bowling by Rashid and his fellow bowlers helped England comfortably win the match by six wickets. After winning the toss in Dubai, England captain Eoin Morgan decided to bowl first. West Indies got off to a poor start and lost five wickets in the first eight overs.
Chris Woakes got the ball rolling for England after dismissing in-form opener Evin Lewis in the second over of West Indies’ innings. Moeen Ali then dismissed both Lendl Simmons and Shimron Hetmyer in the third and fifth overs respectively.
Pacers Tymal Mills and Chris Jordan got the better of Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo respectively before the former also handed his marching orders to Nicholas Pooran in the 9th over. After that, it was the Adil Rashid show.
He dismissed Andre Russell for a duck in the 11th over before dismissing both Kieron Pollard and Obed McCoy in the 11th over. Rashid was on a hat-trick, but Ravi Rampaul held his ground to be denied his maiden T20I hat-trick.
The 33-year-old eventually ended West Indies’ innings by dismissing Rampaul in the 15th over, ending the match with figures of 4/2 in his career-best T20Is. These are also the best figures by an Englishman in T20Is.
The previous record was held by Chris Jordan, who also finished with figures of 4/6 against the West Indies.
