Fans Fury At Gautam Gambhir Over “Only Personal Record” Comment On AB De Villiers
[ad_1]

Former South African batsman AB de Villiers is regarded as one of the best players in the world. Apart from several records in international cricket, de Villiers has created a separate fan base in the Indian Premier League. Popularly known as Mr. 360, the Proteas batsman has taken his franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore to new heights with his powerful hitting. De Villiers started his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils in 2008 but then moved to RCB in 2011. He then scored 4522 runs at a strike rate of 158.33 and became the second highest run scorer for Bangalore. He also contributed two centuries and 37 half-centuries before retiring in 2021.
However, former India batsman and two-time IPL champion Gautam Gambhir expressed his opinion on the Proteas great and said that in his decade-long career with RCB, de Villiers has only managed to achieve individual records.
Gambhir told Star Sports, “If AB de Villiers plays for 8-10 years in a smaller ground like Chinnaswamy Stadium, then any player can have the same strike rate or ability. So Suresh Raina won 4 IPL titles, unfortunately, De Villiers is just a personal record.” ,
Gambhir’s comment did not go down well with RCB fans who took to Twitter to criticize the former India batsman.
30 is the highest average @Gautam Gambhir Sometimes in a stadium, that’s his standard. Earlier he didn’t know how to bat, now he didn’t know how to talk.
He is a politician now, the work of politicians is always to say bad things about the opposition, that is what he is doing.

At Chinnaswamy Stadium in IPL:
Gambhir – 11 innings (all as opener), 30.2 AVG, 126.4 SR
AB de Villiers – 61 in (34 at No. 4 or below), 43.56 avg, 161.2 sr
It is interesting that Gambhir himself could not score as many runs as Chinnaswamy from an easy batting position.

Gautam Gambhir averages 30.2 with an SR of 126.4 in 11 innings at Chinnaswamy. Just 2 fifties and a highest score of 64. Even if the boundaries of the stadium are small. It is clearly not the easiest pitch ever to bat on. He certainly doesn’t have the best records out there.

Gambhir started his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils in 2008 and then moved to Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011 as a captain. Thereafter, he led the Kolkata-based franchise to two titles in 2012 and 2014 after defeating Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings. final respectively. The former India opener has scored 4218 runs in 154 IPL matches with 36 fifties.
Talking about IPL, the 16th edition of the cash-rich league will begin on March 31 with the first match between defending champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad.
