“He Said That For Babar?”: Shaheen Afridi Stunned By Mohammad Amir’s Comment On Pakistan Captain

Veteran Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir drew flak from fans on social media after his ‘angry throw’ at national campaigner Babar Azam during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match. While Amir backed his act by advising fast bowlers to show such aggression on the field, fellow fast bowler Shaheen Afridi does not share the senior bowler’s beliefs. Afridi was left in shock after knowing what Amir had to say about the Babar incident.

“These types of matchups and player rivalries keep the players on their toes. I personally like these kind of challenges as it keeps me focused. My job is to take wickets and win matches for my team, So for me, facing Babar or facing a tailender, number 10 will be the same,” Amir was quoted as saying on ARY News.

When informed about the veteran pacer’s comments, Shaheen had to confirm if that was indeed what Amir had said.

Afridi in conversation with Pakistan on Geo said, “He actually said that for Babar? It is surprising. If you go anywhere in the world and say Babar is playing for us, they will say ‘ Oh, Babur! (He) is the king.” news.

“This shouldn’t happen. Babar is our number 1 player and we respect him. If we Pakistanis don’t respect him, who else will?” Afridi further said.

Even veteran Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik had some words to say about Amir’s actions. While he acknowledged that rivalry is healthy for the league, he also stressed the importance of mutual respect for one another.

According to Cricket Pakistan, Malik had said, “One thing should not be lacking and that is respect. I have seen Babar, Amir and Imad respect each other when they meet.”

“Rivalry is healthy for the league. You should give your best when you are on the field. It is your responsibility how to motivate yourself. If something motivates you to get the best out of you, you should definitely It should be done. The good thing is that everyone respects each other and doesn’t cross limits.”
