India all-rounder Hardik Pandya called his Mumbai Indians (MI) teammate Kieron Pollard a ‘Gujarati’ at heart and said that the West Indies limited overs captain acts like an ‘Indian player’. “We call him Dada. He is from the West Indies but he is actually a Gujarati at heart. He literally acts like an Indian: a person who believes in wealth, a person who believes in investing, A person who believes: Instead of buying a car, I will buy property because it will grow, not waste a rupee [I won’t waste a rupee],” Pandya told ESPNcricinfo.

“How Kunal is to me, Pollard is the same. He has been a part of the international circuit for a long time. I sometimes don’t understand how it works, but he has taught me to let it be. I am so ahead If I don’t like something. Many times he has pacified me, many times he has given me life lessons.”

Pandya further said that Pollard is no longer just friends but ‘family’.

“The relationship started because of Krunal. In IPL in 2015 I didn’t talk to Polly. He was in the next room but it was just “Hi Polly, by Polly.” “In 2016, when Kunal came, I started talking to him Polly. Polly is now family, not just a friend, not just a teammate,” he said.

India will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan in Dubai on October 24. After the upcoming T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli will step down as the captain of the team in the shortest format.
