Raj Bawa and Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored centuries as India beat Uganda by 326 runs in their final Group B game of the ongoing ICC Men’s U19 World Cup at the Brian Lara Stadium. With this win, India are on top of Group B and will now play their quarter-finals on January 29. Chasing 405 runs, Uganda kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and in the end, the team was bowled out for 79 in 20 overs. For India, stand-in captain Nishant Sindhu returned with four wickets.
Earlier, Raj Bawa and Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored 162 and 144 respectively as India posted 405/5 in the allotted fifty overs. Both the batsmen put on 206 runs for the third wicket to remove the plight of the Ugandan bowlers.
In the end, Dinesh Bana and Anishwar Gautam also played cameos on 22 and 12 to help India post a score of over 400 runs.
Bawa now holds the record for the highest individual score by an Indian batsman in the Under-19 World Cup. Earlier this record was held by Shikhar Dhawan who scored 155 runs in the 2004 edition of the tournament against Kenya.
Bawa got a lot of support from Angkrish Raghuvanshi who returned after adding 144 runs. The duo added 206 runs for the third wicket against Uganda. This is also the second time that the Indian team has scored more than 400 runs in an innings. India’s total of 405 runs is the most by any team in this edition of the Under-19 World Cup.
The highest score by an Indian side in the Under 19 World Cup is 425 which came in the same match in 2004 in which Dhawan scored 155.
India have already made their place in the quarter-finals and after winning this clash, they are finished as table-toppers in the group stage.
