Former Australia cricketer Brad Hogg feels Pakistan will miss the semi-finals of the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup if they lose to India in the first match of their campaign in Dubai on October 24. Pakistan will face a busy opening week in their campaign. Two days after India’s game in New Zealand and then three days later in Afghanistan. India, on the other hand, will have a little more breathing room before taking on New Zealand, meeting them in the second game of their campaign just a week after the first against Pakistan.
According to Hogg, for Babar Azam-led Pakistan, the opening game could go a long way in deciding their semi-final fate.
When asked by former India cricketer Deep Dasgupta to name his four semifinal picks in the latter’s YouTube channel, Hogg replied: “The teams that I think are going to go into the semi-finals are England and West Indies from Group 1. From Group 2, I think it’s going to be Pakistan and India.”
The Australian then warned about Pakistan. “But having said that, if Pakistan loses to India in the first game, they get a small change to play New Zealand. I think it will be a huge factor whether Pakistan goes ahead or not. Loses against India. First game, I don’t think they will succeed. India will go through it,” Hogg elaborated.
India prepared for this showpiece event with comfortable victories in practice matches against England and Australia. Pakistan, on the other hand, defeated West Indies and then lost to South Africa in their practice matches.
