“I’m Bored”: Kapil Dev’s Big Statement On Virat Kohli’s Lean Patch

Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are going through a bad phase. While the former hasn’t scored a ton since November, 2019, the latter could not score a half-century in 14 consecutive matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Now both the senior Indian batsmen will be expected to do well. The upcoming tour of England begins with a Test match in Birmingham from 1 July. It is the rescheduled Test match that will decide the fate of the unfinished series between India and England which was disrupted in 2021 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Ahead of the series, 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev gave his opinion on the form of both the players.

During a discussion on a YouTube channel, Dev told the anchor that many people tell him not to analyze Kohli’s form as he has not played cricket.

To which, Dev replied: “Even I haven’t played as much cricket as Virat Kohli. Then we can never criticize these players, because we haven’t played that much cricket. This is wrong. We have played cricket and we understand and after understanding the game, I think, somewhere, they need to fix their thought process, not ours.

“If you prove us wrong, we’ll be happy. If you don’t score runs, we think there’s something wrong. Maybe there’s too much cricket. If there’s too much cricket, talk to yourself and if There is very little cricket, then talk to yourself too,” Kapil Dev added on Uncut YouTube channel.

“We only see one thing and that’s your performance. And if there’s no performance, how many people can you stop talking? It’s not possible. Your bat and your performance should speak, nothing more.”

When asked about Kohli’s century drought, Kapil Dev said: “I am asking the same thing: such a big player and such a big difference. I am also upset because he is like a hero to us. We used to think That we can’t find a player comparable to Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag. But Kohli forced us to compare them. But in the last two years they haven’t. So, I am upset. Me Looks like mentally they need to improve their cricket.”

Kapil Dev also talked about Rohit not scoring a half-century in the IPL. “The player is brilliant. But if you don’t score half-centuries in 14 matches, there will be question marks. Be it Gary Sobers, or Don Bradman, or Sachin, or Virat Kohli or Vivian Richards or Sunil Gavaskar. If there is a big player like him “He doesn’t score runs in so many matches, there will be question marks. Only Rohit Sharma can answer what is happening to him. Players like him and Virat Kohli should enjoy the game.”
