Team India registered a big win over Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Nagpur as the hosts claimed an innings and 132-run victory. Ravindra Jadeja bagged the player of the match award as he made a memorable comeback with seven wickets and 70 runs. Apart from him, Ravichandran Ashwin also took five wickets while captain Rohit Sharma scored a century. As both the teams now gear up for the second Test in Delhi, the hosts are likely to go ahead with their playing XI with batsman Shreyas Iyer, who had to pull out of the first Test due to injury.
India’s probable playing XI for the second Test is as follows:
Rohit SharmaRohit showed his true potential in the first Test when he played the captain’s innings and scored 120 off 212 balls. He provides a strong foundation to the Indian batting line-up with his superb skills.
KL Rahul: The India vice-captain disappointed his fans with yet another poor performance in the first Test. Rahul gets out for 20 and the management can think of replacing him with Shubman Gill.
Cheteshwar Pujara: The always reliable Cheteshwar Pujara will play his 100th Test on Friday. The 35-year-old batsman, who got out for 7 in the first Test, will surely look to redeem himself in the second match.
Virat Kohli: This star batsman of India, famous for his deadly batting, could not live up to the expectations of the fans and got out after scoring 12 runs. He will now look for a big knock in the upcoming match.
Suryakumar Yadav: Suryakumar Yadav made his Test debut as he replaced the injured Shreyas Iyer during the first Test. However, he had a below par outing and could only manage 8 runs. The management can replace Shreyas in case he is match fit.
KS BharathThe 29-year-old cricketer was given a chance ahead of Ishan Kishan and did a good job behind the stumps. But, he scored only 8 runs with the bat.
Akshar Patel: The 29-year-old all-rounder showed his batting skills and helped Team India reach the 400-run mark. Axar played an innings of 84 runs and was also economical with the ball.
Ravindra JadejaAfter being out of the Indian team for almost five months, the all-rounder surprised everyone with his comeback. He bagged five wickets in the first innings and took two more wickets in the second innings. Apart from this, he also scored 70 runs with the bat.
Ravichandran Ashwin: The experienced all-rounder once again proved his mettle as he claimed his 31st five-wicket haul in the first Test. Sent in as the night watchman, he also scored 23 runs off 62 balls.
Mohammed Shami: This experienced fast bowler surprised everyone with his batting skills in the first test. Shami played an inning of 37 runs in 47 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes. He also dismissed Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul.
Mohammed Siraj: Undoubtedly one of the best bowlers in the world, Siraj took a wicket in the first Test. The 28-year-old fast bowler definitely has a lot more potential than him.
